For sale is an AMAZING, vintage, Whiting & Davis, Art Deco, mirrored mesh chain maille, flapper style purse with an engraved, hinged, top closure that has an elaborate rhinestone accent at the top where it closes and a short, chain strap! The purse is a rare, Whiting & Davis, style. It is a mirrored, gold tone mesh with a matching chain. It has a very Art Deco, geometric, engraved and elaborate design on the hinged top with the ornate rhinestone clasp!
The top has a hinged style closure where the rhinestone accent locks it into place at the top and a pleated or pouch design that allows it to hold more because the bottom is roomy at the corners. Inside is lined with the traditional, Whiting & Davis peach colored fabric. The interior of the hinged top is stamped 'WHITING & DAVIS CO' and 'Made in USA'.-see pictures
It is a unique, quality, purse that is the epitome of early 20th century style. It is in excellent, vintage condition, especially for its age. There are no mesh flaws or loss that are to be expected with a nearly 100 year old purse. There may be a stone missing from the rhinestone accent in the center- see pictures. It is hard to tell, even in person, because if it is, it is missing in the center and the shine of the other stones makes up for it. This is a great little bag that is stylish in any era!
